Yoga with Zena is fundamentally a healing practice.
Welcome to my website. I've had a long journey with learning various embodiment technique that help to somatically shift the patterns of stuckness that we each have in our lives. Creativity, strength and steadiness can be cultivated, not just as a theoretical understanding, but as an actual lived experience, through various simple yet profound practices. I've had the good fortune to learn from some wonderful teachers in my life and I'm happy to share my skills with you to help you on your journey too.
My teaching style is eclectic, drawing on various schools of body-mind practices including Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Continuum Movement, 5 Rhythms Dance, Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Experiencing, Bodynamics Psychotherapy, NeuroAffective Touch and Embodied Anatomy. I love to teach! And I love to allow things to flow and emerge spontaneously, though always with a focus on healing. Healing is a big part of my work. Stress & trauma are not uncommon. They are everywhere. They are a natural part of life. Learning to deal with them in healthier ways that help us ease up on the accumulated patterns and allow release is at the core of my practice. |
I completed my 200hr CYT as a certified teacher in the Sivananda Ashram in 2009 and I have been teaching regularly ever since.
In 2018, I became a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) for trauma healing following a 3-year training approach founded by award-winning body-based psychotherapist Dr. Peter Levine. I've been assisting trainings international ever since, notably in Cairo and Budapest. My private practice is also informed by Dr. Aline LaPierre's NeuroAffective Touch which addresses traumas in the earliest years of life, Lizbeth Marcher's Bodynamics which examines muscle tension patterns through the lens of developmental psychology, and Kate White's Foundations of Pre-Natal & Perinatal Trauma which offers an integrative approach to healing birth, pre-birth and transgenerational trauma. I also collaborate with humanitarian organisations and social initiatives to teach about and offer trauma-informed yoga classes. My work is bilingual, Arabic and English, and culturally integrative. I am especially passionate about supporting refugee communities and marginalized communities in the Arab world. |
